if i drink a gallon of water a day will i lose weight?

Best answer:
Yes, increasing the amount of water you drink can help weight loss, but whether it's healthy or not depends on what else you're taking in- foodwise-- sugars, electrolytes, protein, etc.....

If you're sweating a lot, you will need to replace that fluid, and water is a great source...

You will want to be careful, though. There was a story in the news a while back about a woman who died because she drank too much water. She was participating in a contest sponsored by a radio station. She drank something like a gallon and a half in under 2 hours. Problem was that she also diluted the electrolytes in her body. After she went home, she felt sick, passed out, and a neighbor took her to the hospital, but she died anyway.

I'd suggest starting with just drinking a little more than you currently do. Your body does need a certain amount of water to function properly- like oil in a car. Drink a little more than you usually do- like 1 or 2 more glasses/day. Stay with that level for a couple weeks, let your body get used to it.

I heard a formula- take your weight in pounds, divide that number by 2, and you should be drinking that number of ounces of water each day... I'm 125 lb... so that's 62oz/day that I should be drinking. So if you're around 255, yeah, you should be drinking about a gallon/day.
