does coconut oil really help you loose weight?

Look, coconut oil - and, to an extent, saturated fat - has been given such a bad rap by the health schmexperts and anti-coconut oil gestapo out there. I want to set the record straight here. The fact is, coconut oil - at least, the extra virgin organic unrefined stuff that I consume (and the stuff I'd recommend you consume) - is completely healthy. In fact, if I had my choice, I would use it as my preferred oil to cook with, except I grill most of my stuff so that never comes into play. OK, sorry to get off track: it is a stable, healthy saturated fat that humans have consumed for thousands of years. There are populations in the south pacific who have consumed relatively high levels of coconut oil and have traditionally enjoyed low rates of heart disease, cholesterol and diabetes. They were also extremely lean. It's only when they westernized their style of eating and living that they suffered from the diseases and escalating levels of obesity they do today. I use coconut oil daily in my diet, and I've got nothing but positive things to say about it. And don't get me wrong, I'm not some crazy health nut that looks like Woody Allen or anything. I believe in sensible, natural foods - nothing gimmicky or fad based. I wouldn't call coconut oil a fad too since it's been consumed for thousands of years. It's great for the skin and hair, has a really wonderful taste and aroma, and I haven't put an ounce of fat on through eating it. Also, keep in mind that at the end of the day, the unrefined coconut oil (which is of course trans fat free) is completely natural. It's not created by a bunch of dorky scientists in a lab like some of the "energy bars" and other so-called foods out there.
