You can actually look up the Food Guide Pyramid on the internet. In my opinion, the healthiest diet is the Diabetic Diet. I hate to use the term "diet" because it usually brings up negative feelings. However, this way of eating spreads out your intake of carbohydrates, which will give you a more level amount of energy throughout the day. Have three small meals, plus 2-3 healthy snacks per day. For example, try not to just eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast. How about some oatmeal, a piece of fruit, juice or milk, or yogurt if you like it. The worst thing you can do for yourself is totally eliminate carbs. Toss out the sugars, for the most part, and simple, processed carbs. Go for the multi-grain products. If you don't really like them, you will start to if you make yourself try them day after day. I actually prefer complex carbs, because I don't soar on energy for 30 minutes and then bottom out. It takes longer for your body to break down the food, and the energy you get from the food is more level. It is also important to note that a serving of protein is much smaller than we tend to think. Most of us can eat a 10 oz steak and think that we did good. However, a more appropriate serving is actually only about three ounces.

Another tip is to use monounsaturated fats and oils such as peanut oil and olive oil. They break down in your system better and they don't raise your bad cholosterol as much as processed fats like margarine and vegetable oil.
