I have a friend who does Reiki hollistic therapy. To those of you who know what it is, what is your take on it?

It is one of many "energy/spiritual" healing philosophies. It is a kind of "vitalism" as it purports a universal life energy called ki. It has a lot in common with things like Therapeutic Touch, the classic religious laying on of hands, the even more classic Kingly laying on of hands, as well as Wiccan healing rituals.
There is no evidence of ki (or chi or qi or prana) and no evidence Reiki masters can manipulate the undetectable energy in any measurable ways. Its "healing" powers depend on the placebo response for the most part.
